Family has always been at the center of Pastor Richard’s heart, and he believes one of life’s greatest callings is passing down faith, values, and spiritual legacy to the next generation.
Born and raised in ministry as the son of church founders Rev. Archie Hunter and Mother Bernice Hunter, Pastor Richard was surrounded by prayer, worship, service, and leadership from an early age. Growing up in the church shaped his understanding of both ministry and responsibility, preparing him for a life of service. Over the years, he has faithfully served in nearly every area of church ministry—from junior usher, musician, and youth worker, to teacher, worship leader, associate pastor, and even senior pastoral leadership. His willingness to serve wherever needed reflects his humility, faithfulness, and love for God’s people.
Today, Pastor Richard serves as Associate Pastor and worship leader at Neighborhood Church of God, ministering alongside his brothers and church family with passion, wisdom, and authenticity. He has a special gift for encouraging others, leading worship, teaching the Word, and helping believers grow in both faith and purpose. His leadership carries the heart of a shepherd—one who not only teaches, but walks alongside people through life’s victories, challenges, and seasons of growth.
Outside of ministry, Pastor Richard has built an impressive professional career defined by versatility, leadership, and service. Over the course of 45 years, he has served on numerous boards, advisory groups, and community committees, lending his voice, experience, and leadership to organizations such as the Urban League of Portland, NAACP, and AARP, along with many other community-focused initiatives throughout Portland.
His professional background includes work as a truck driver, housing specialist, employment specialist, and transportation services representative—each role reflecting his strong work ethic, adaptability, and commitment to helping others. He completed his professional career with the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services, where he faithfully served for nine years before retiring in 2015.
Beyond his ministry and professional service, Pastor Richard enjoys creative and personal pursuits that reflect his love for learning and the arts. He has a passion for desktop publishing and design, enjoys listening to smooth and classical jazz, and finds great joy in playing the piano. He also appreciates time spent exploring technology, working on creative projects, and even enjoying computer games as a way to relax and recharge.
Throughout every season of his life—as a father, grandfather, minister, musician, mentor, community leader, and public servant—Pastor Richard has remained steadfast in his commitment to serving God and uplifting others. His life stands as a powerful testimony of faithfulness, perseverance, and servant leadership, and his impact continues to be felt both within the church and throughout the broader community.
